I think that this is the foundational solution to what we are facing in the world. There are several ways that we could become cutoff from resources. I decided that instead of falling into anxiety about the future, I will just assume the apocalypse has already happened and make the necessary choices to survive. The way to freedom is to not be dependent on systems of resources that are unstable and/or not invested in our best interest. Aristotle described the best approach to fighting oligarchy is to cease to need their resources.
Survival resources like energy, communication, food, water, etc. are all resources that we can work on solutions.
Energy: install wood-burning stoves at least as backup systems. Also install solar, even if a simple camping version to enable communication. What are other ways to provide energy for oneself for short-term or potentially ongoing lack?
Food: grow indoor shelf/grow-light and outdoor traditional gardens. Store up freeze-dried long-term storage food for at least one year.
Water: have 5 gallon containers for a few months and/or distilling capabilities and water gathering capabilities.
Social resources like community, education, medical, etc.
Community: form trusted bonds with small groups of people facilitated by churches, social clubs, activists and rescue groups. Create trust and stable communication and gain an understanding of each individual resources that can be shared with the community including education and medical.
On a person level I will ask myself three questions before buying anything: Do I need it? Can I make it myself? Can my community work together to create the resource?
