What is the best Monty Python film?

I will utterly challenge stereotypes and state that I've been a Monty Python fan from a very early age.

Out of the three offerings, it's a hard call.

Each movie has some scenes that are so-so, while other scenes that are outstanding. I do favor the Holy Grail opening credits... soooo good. But some of Meaning of Life just leaves me rolling on the floor. I know Life of Brian the least in its totality.

I'm going to have to say The Meaning of Life, although I love them all about equally.

TMoL is great in its broad scope and it represented both a return to and a refining of their sketch show roots

Holy Grail is awesome but it seems like the default favorite for people who haven't seen the series or taken time to appreciate the other films.

Yeah, it's not really indicative of whether they would have enjoyed MPFC (TV series).

Admittedly it was my introduction to Monty Python, so Holy Grail will of course always have a special place in my heart. Nostalgically speaking, it is definitely my favorite.

I would assume a lot of US fans discovered Python via Grail

I think my discovey was still through the TV series. I had a few nerdy friends in college, and they were watching this really old quirky TV show on the dorm TV when I'd go over there... and I just had to know what it was because I'd never seen anything quite like it.

As was with the Garden, curiosity was my downfall... and thus was I corrupted and damned.

I will always have a super-warm spot in my heart for the "Pirates of the Crimson Permanent Assurance" short from MoL: God, that was beautiful... and then the re-visit later in the film.

ROFL. Terry. Wow... "nobody told me to stop." Still laughing.

But Grail was probably the first full-length movie of theirs that I saw; the first time I saw the ending, I was like WTF... now I think it's hilarious.

EDIT: Oh, I've also seen Spam-a-Lot locally, it was pretty well-done.

I love the Meaning of Life DVD commentary tracks. Terry Jones jokingly poked fun at the Crimson sequence and mentioned it being overlong and expensive, or something to that effect.

Then there's that weird Soundtrack for the Lonely commentary track. Just bizarre.

Definitely The Meaning of Life. It was also the one I watched most growing up.

If the poll had been "most quotable Python film" then Holy Grail would win hands-down.

That film seems to be the one Python creation loved by hardcore and casual fans alike. It's their White Album, in a sense.

I preferred the TV series, they showed it on PBS when I was young. I used to think Monty Python was the funniest thing on earth and couldn't get enough, now it's just too silly.

Because Life is More Than Type?
And because lots of N/NT types enjoy Monty Python?

If you're going to obsess over type, maybe use the enneagram -- a large portion of MPFC lovers seem to be in the Head triad (Five, Six, Seven). So I wouldn't be surprised if you're confusing SJ types with Type Sixes. xSFJs types typically think Monty Python is as stupid AF.

Life of Brian for me. I just like the fact it has the zany randomness so characteristic of Monty Python, but it's also a nice complete story. Different from the other two. I also like the ending better than Holy Grail.
