Biblically speaking, the origin of it is probably due to the fact that homosexuals could not naturally reproduce. Some modern conservatives still have an obsession with birth rates (like J.D. Vance), and no doubt this influences their attitudes towards homosexuality. I think the obsession with birth rates is probably tied to a desire to keep the society "pure", because high birth rates allow for a strong enough labor force to keep society functioning without the need for immigrants.

The bulk of the Old Testament was written around 500 BC, much of it in Babylonia. (It's called biblical criticism. Fundamentalists hate it!) It probably shouldn't be a guide for everything in our lives. I have read the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Mark, but I don't remember when authorship of those texts is supposed to be, let alone anything regarding all those letters from Paul.

JD Vance is a Catholic Natalist. The reason has less to do with gays and reproduction and much MUCH more to do with the "global demographic collapse" tech and venture capitalists and right wingers in the US believe in. People like Viktor Oberon have made natalism a key part of their platform and obviously he is held up as the ideal for much of the GOP and larger right but I laugh at the idea of the GOP paying anyone to have children like other countries have in the past. Pro-natalists have aligned with pro-eugenics many times in the past and since conservatives, by their very nature, have no new ideas, they just grab the worst shit possible from the past.

I will say this - the Protestant right, evangelicals and such will turn on Catholics the moment they step out of line with the groupthink. Also the dumbass Muslims that line up with the right will also be obliterated. It's one thing to be socially conservative yourself with your own life. Totally different to stand up to be counted with authoritarian right wingers.

Yeah, the protestant catholic beef is a historical feud at this point. Generations on generations of people have passed down the family story about all your relatives who have been killed, betrayed, or fucked with by the other "Family" is truly something to behold, Stephen King was fascinated by that dynamic and features it in a lot of his works.

I'm often impressed with how much of where we are right now all over the world seems to come down to feuding. The Hatfields and the McCoys are like a microcosm of the modern era. The Protoestant Catholic feud and the muslim catholic feud in many ways feels like the microcosm of the Middle Age. We call it all kinds of different things for all kinds of different reasons, but at the end of the day its just feuding. We do it, because it is what we do. Lots of people pay lots of money to make sure we follow the program. You cant have feudalism make its big comeback until you get a certain amount of serfs, and to do that, you gotta well you cant instill a feudal system when theres another system in place...but if the system is working well for everyone no one will want to change that so...adding houses of cards to a domino ralley would take a lot of time and a lot of money and a lot of think thanks devoted to making it work out. But no one will just go along with that, so divisive rhetoric, fostering paranoia, and mistrust among neighbors, dividing people from support networks of friends and family so they turn to wherever is accepting the brand on their personality. Crazy stuff. Then again. Its a crazy world, and these are crazy times. And right now you're missing out on incredible savings on amazon prime, or at walmart, or any number of fine peddlers of any old needful thing you, the consumer, might have. So get up right, now don't even bother to turn off the computer or turn out the lights, and get in your car, and drive on down to any of our fine discount outlet merchandise peddlers and spend spend spend today. After all, with how depressing everything is, you need every dopamine hit you can get.

Remember kiddos, the important thing is to not think about it. Have an iced cream instead. You're gonna miss those in a few years.

Say no to government and media sponsored Rabbit Holes kids. The Mind you save, could be your own.

God I love Caturdays. Stay groovy friends.

I don't see that happening here, either.

I supposed I'm not just being paranoid by worrying about such things.

I think I'm starting to see your larger point here. I still have yet to finish that book on Hitchens by the way. I'm about halfway through. It's not a large book but it's very dense, like a philosophical text.

Ben Burgis is a philosophy professor after all but I agree. His articles and essays are not written the same way - I think they get right to the heart of things quickly, then add the necessary bulk. He's a main reason I subscribe to Jacobin magazine, I really enjoy his stuff there.
